FESTIVALS
- The City Council of Leganés has today presented a free outdoor festival with concerts in El Carrascal, Arroyo Culebro, and Plaza Mayor, to be held on June 13th and 14th.
- «A program has been prepared for all tastes, led by singer David DeMaría. There will be a great focus on local artists like Irenne, ‘Sin Salida,’ and Xure, sponsored by Dejóvenes. There will also be concerts during the aperitif hours for family audiences. The goal is to always have a plan in Leganés,» highlighted the Councilor of Festivals, Almudena A. Jiménez.
- In addition, this month will see the celebration of Pride LGTBIQ Day, the II Environmental Fair, the Sports Festival, the San Juan Festivities in the neighborhoods, and San Fortunato in La Fortuna.
- There will also be more sports with the Pepinito Tournament in indoor soccer; ‘The Joy Match,’ with legends on the field and concerts led by ‘Los Nikis’; and a Spain-Japan match with the world champions at the Butarque Stadium.
The Leganés City Council has launched ‘Leganés Suena,’ a new music festival aimed at bringing life to the city’s neighborhoods, promoting local talent, and offering accessible, attractive, and quality cultural proposals for all audiences.
At a press conference outside the Town Hall, which began with a performance by one of the local artists participating in this festival, Irene, ‘Leganés Suena’ was introduced today, which will fill three emblematic spaces in the city, El Carrascal, Arroyo Culebro, and Plaza Mayor, with outdoor concerts and free entry during the weekend of June 13th and 14th.
«Always have a plan in Leganés»
The Councilor of Festivals, Almudena A. Jiménez, stated, «We have been working on this festival for a year and have prepared a program designed to make the heart of the neighborhoods beat, and bring culture to every corner. Always have a plan in Leganés so you don’t have to leave the city for lack of quality entertainment. This festival invites you to explore the city, rediscover our public spaces, and enjoy music and local talent together.»
Promoting local talent
«This festival reflects our commitment to making Leganés a vibrant city, with dynamic neighborhoods where music is present in squares and on the streets, accessible to everyone,» detailed the councilor, adding that ‘Leganés Suena’ also aims to give visibility to local talent and support young artists who are growing inside and outside the city, through Dejóvenes (Youth Delegation of the Leganés City Council), which makes them protagonists in these events.
A program for all tastes, led by David DeMaría
The festival will kick off on Friday, June 13th at 8:00 pm in El Carrascal, with an evening dedicated to flamenco, rumba, and fusion. The lineup is led by David DeMaría, a renowned artist with over 25 years of career, who has filled major national and international stages with his voice and compositions fusing flamenco and pop.
He will be joined by DBureo, a flamenco group that performs regularly in notable venues like Platea Madrid, Cristian Montero, a copla and flamenco singer with a powerful voice who was a finalist on Got Talent, and the emerging Irenne, a young singer and songwriter who is starting to stand out in the music venues of Madrid for her unique and personal style, and who opened and closed the festival presentation today with her spectacular voice.
Aperitif hours for family audiences
On Saturday morning, June 14th, the festival moves to Arroyo Culebro, with a program during aperitif hours designed for family audiences. The day will start with La Banda Mocosa, a show that will have the little ones singing and dancing, followed by Metrorock, a cover band that will play great hits of national and international rock (Fito y Fitipaldis, Loquillo, Bon Jovi…), Luis Polo, a regular artist at Starlite, and Tell Mama Band, a powerful band that brings back the best of soul and funk.
Local artists like ‘Sin Salida’ and Xure
The Plaza Mayor will be the final stage of the festival on Saturday night, with a great event dedicated to pop-rock, indie, and local talent. ‘Sin Salida’ and Xure, two artists sponsored by Dejóvenes, will perform. Xure, winner of the «Leganés a Ritmo Joven» contest, is one of the most prominent emerging artists in the municipality, with a repertoire that is already part of the soundtrack of many residents.
Rounding out the night are De Rancho, with a vibrant live performance and catchy pop-rock songs, Austin, an amazing voice that has performed ‘Cruz de Navajas,’ and Fran Valenzuela, with his acclaimed tribute to Alejandro Sanz.
Culture outdoors, free, and local
The ‘Leganés Suena’ festival is part of the Leganés City Council’s efforts to revitalize life in the neighborhoods, promote access to culture, and support emerging artists and groups, especially those linked to the city. It also helps reinforce the idea of Leganés as a municipality with a wide range of entertainment, rich, diverse, and in various locations.
The most active June in all of Madrid
After the presentation of ‘Leganés Suena,’ the Mayor of Leganés, Miguel Ángel Recuenco, listed all the festivals, concerts, and sports that can be enjoyed in Leganés during this month: «No city can boast of such an active and intense June as we will have in Leganés. We start on Friday with the celebration of Pride LGTBIQ at the Plaza del Laberinto, continue on Saturday with the II Environmental Fair, and end on Sunday with the Sports Festival and the Popular Race.»
Sports and concerts
The Mayor detailed how sports are returning with the Pepinito Tournament (from June 11th to 15th), this time in indoor soccer format; on Thursday the 19th, the ‘Joy Match’ will take place, with legends on the La Cubierta field like Guti, Amavisca, Tote, or Buyo, and musical performances by ‘Los Nikis’, DJ Nano, DJ Tello, and artists like Rafa Almarcha (Siempre Así) or Álvaro Urquijo (Los Secretos).
Additionally, on Friday, June 27th, the world champions of soccer, the Spanish team led by Montse Tomé, will face Japan at Butarque Stadium in the final preparation match before heading to the Eurocup in Switzerland.
San Juan Festivities in the neighborhoods
The week of June 19th to 24th will be filled with festivities in the neighborhoods of Leganés Norte, Los Frailes, El Candil, and Zarzaquemada with the traditional San Juan bonfire and the colorful and fraternal atmosphere that the neighborhood associations and groups fill the streets with during these days.
San Fortunato and the Panorama Orchestra
And the culmination of this intense month will be the San Fortunato Festivities in La Fortuna (June 20th to 29th), where the highlight will be on Saturday the 28th with the performance of the famous Panorama Orchestra, which is touring Spain with its «Epic Tour.»
II Environmental Fair
The Councilor for the Environment, Violeta Bonet, also intervened to explain how more than 40 activities have been prepared to commemorate World Environment Day: «The most important will be on Saturday, June 7th, at Plaza del Milenio, with the II Environmental Fair, which will feature educational workshops, magic shows, games for children, ‘Nendo Dango’ plantations, and demonstrations of drones and the Police Canine Unit.»
«In addition, those interested can get on a collection truck and see firsthand what the daily work of the Environmental Delegation staff is like,» she added.
Sports Festival and Popular Race
For her part, the Sports Councilor, Clara Polonio, explained how on Sunday the 8th, the big Sports Festival will take place: «A day that allows us to learn about the great work of our sports clubs in the city, with exhibitions and the opportunity for all visitors to practice 20 disciplines like badminton, judo, indoor soccer, basketball, archery, paddle tennis, floorball, flag football, table tennis, chess, fencing, zumba, canoeing, swimming, and this year for the first time, triathlon.»

The First Deputy Mayor, Carlos Delgado, added, «With this great activity in June, it is demonstrated that this government is working as a team, with sports, culture, youth, festivals, environment, works, all delegations working together, to achieve a vibrant city with alternatives, which has regained its excitement.»
