The City Council of Madrid is finalizing the opening of a new Citizen Service Office (OAC) of Línea Madrid in the Salamanca district. The Deputy Mayor, Inma Sanz, visited the completion of the works for this new facility today, located at 4 Povedilla Street, alongside the Delegate for Works and Equipment, Paloma García Romero, and the district councilor, Cayetana Hernández de la Riva, following an investment of nearly 3.9 million euros.
"Municipal citizen service offices, along with the 010 telephone line, are the first and closest point of information and assistance for citizens, where they can carry out procedures, learn about municipal services, and receive help with administrative matters," summarized Sanz, detailing that a wide range of services are provided at the same location, such as registry management, municipal taxes, low-emission zone authorizations (ZBE), fines, Regulated Parking Service (SER), telecare, Madridmayor card, Technical Building Inspection (ITE), urban information, among others, as well as procedures before the registry.
The new OAC has a surface area of 550 m² and will have 15 citizen service points, compared to the current 11, which will improve service and reduce waiting times. All points will be located near large windows to allow for proper lighting and natural ventilation. Additionally, the facility will have a central information point (with a ticket dispensing point and a support point), as well as two waiting areas, an internal work area with six tables, an office for the office head, public and staff toilets. It will also include an office for municipal employees with natural ventilation and lighting, as well as a storage area. It has two entrances from the street, one for the general public and one for staff. "It represents a quantitative and qualitative improvement in serving the district’s residents," emphasized Sanz.
The works for the new OAC were carried out by the Works and Equipment Area, with an investment of 1.1 million euros (in addition to the 2.75 million for the purchase of the location). The works involved a comprehensive renovation of the ground floor of the building, which will replace the current facilities located at the district municipal board’s headquarters, which have space issues.
The Madrid City Council has a total of 26 Línea Madrid citizen service offices distributed across the 21 districts, providing residents with information about the city and the City Council, as well as a space to carry out various procedures, some of which require prior appointments.
Individuals over 65 years old can perform all procedures without an appointment at all offices, except for the auxiliary office in Las Tablas, both for their own procedures and when representing other individuals over 65. All offices have basic accessibility measures for people with disabilities, and in Línea Madrid offices, assistance is available in Spanish sign language and English, and in some offices, also in other languages such as Romanian, Arabic, or Mandarin Chinese.
Renewal of Administrative Buildings
In addition to the significant effort in equipment, the City Council has been continuously investing in its administrative buildings since 2019 to continue providing the best service to Madrid residents.
Today’s visited OAC is the second one built by the Works and Equipment Area, following the one in Ventisquero de la Condesa (Fuencarral-El Pardo), with an investment of 800,000 euros and operational since last February.
The push to build, renovate, and improve administrative buildings has also reached the two districts that have inaugurated municipal boards, such as Puente de Vallecas (8.8 million euros) and Moncloa-Aravaca (9.6 million), as well as other buildings like the Doctor Esquerdo building, which will house the Housing Policies Area (11 million euros), in addition to many others that have undergone renovations: Casa de Cisneros; Mayor, 71; Barquillo, 16; Alcalá, 45, or Ronda de Toledo, 10, among others. Additionally, progress is being made on the administrative building and equipment building in the former Legazpi Market. /
