Reapertura parcial de las Delicias con avance de obras de línea 11 de Metro

Starting tomorrow, from 3:00 p.m., partial reopening of vehicular traffic on Paseo de las Delicias will take place following the progress of the expansion works of Metro Line 11. Three lanes in one direction (uphill) will be enabled in the section between the intersections with Ferrocarril and Vizcaya streets: two lanes for private vehicles plus the bus lane. Parking lanes will still be occupied.

The second phase of the subway works will extend until September 4, bringing a significant improvement in mobility to the area. The original configuration will be restored with a one-way lane on Paseo de las Delicias to General Lacy, which was a dead end during phase 1. Traffic will also be reinstated on Calle Áncora between Rafael de Riego and Paseo de las Delicias in the same direction as before.

The remaining street configurations will remain the same as in phase 1 of the works, maintaining the measures taken to ensure traffic flow in the area.

Public Transport Improvements

Nine bus lines of EMT Madrid that were affected by the works will resume their original routes. These include lines 6, E1, 19, 45, 59, 85, 86, 102, and N14.

Lines 47, 55, and 247 will return to their one-way route, with the current detour or minimal changes in the other direction. Lines 8 and 27 will maintain their current detour.

All information about the line disruptions, new routes, and stops can be found on the EMT Madrid website.

Impact on Bike Lanes

The northbound bike lane on Paseo de las Delicias will remain interrupted. Cyclists will be safely diverted to a new signalized crossing for bikes located next to the existing pedestrian crossing at Calle Ferrocarril numbers 1 and 2. This allows them to join the bike lane on Calle Ferrocarril heading towards Glorieta de Santa María de la Cabeza once on the even-numbered sidewalk.

From the signalized crossing for cyclists, they can join the cycle lane 30 on Paseo de Santa María de la Cabeza heading north and on Calle Vizcaya. After passing the closure, they can return to the bike lane on Delicias heading north.

Traffic Surveillance System

The special mobility device remains operational to meet the possible circulation needs, deploying mobility agents who perform specific tasks related to traffic regulation and control in the area, enhancing information, surveillance, and support services on the municipal public roads.

The Madrid City Council continues to recommend the use of public transport to citizens, avoiding private vehicle circulation on streets affected by traffic closures, driving cautiously in areas affected by works, and for long-distance travel, using M-30 and M-40.

The expansion works of Metro Line 11 between Plaza Elíptica and Conde de Casal will, once completed, create a new transversal axis to alleviate congestion on Line 6 by facilitating interchange with other Metro lines, generating alternative routes for radial communication.

Bus Deployment to Cover Line 6 Closure

The Madrid Municipal Transport Company has planned an extensive deployment of its municipal network, unprecedented to date, to replace the regular Metro service from May 31 and adapt to the progress of the works on Line 6 of the subway. For this second phase of the L6 works, an extraordinary resource system has been designed: a special service between Ciudad Universitaria and Méndez Álvaro; a shuttle between Plaza Elíptica and Legazpi stations; a night service between Legazpi and Moncloa, starting on the night of June 1 to 2; the extension of the route and schedule of Line 180 to connect Arganzuela/Planetario station and El Pozo station, and the extension of the Batán-Lucero special service until the metro closing time. These special services will be free for passengers.

For this second phase of the works that require the closure of the western arch of L6 between Moncloa and Méndez Álvaro, from this Saturday until mid-September, EMT Madrid has planned a special substitute and free service between these two stations with a maximum allocation of 60 buses, including 40 standard models and 20 articulated buses. The route between both line termini includes 13 intermediate stops in each direction, located near the metro stations closed due to works.

The first service will start at 6:05 a.m. from each end and from six intermediate stops, with the last one departing at 2:04 a.m. from Ciudad Universitaria and at 2:05 a.m. from Méndez Álvaro. Bus frequency is two to three minutes between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., and three to six minutes between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. The length of this special substitute line is almost 31 kilometers. /
