Inicio de la rehabilitación de la parte superior del puente de Camilo José Cela

The Madrid City Council, through the Works and Equipment Area, will start a new phase of rehabilitation on the Camilo José Cela avenue bridge, under the A-2, between the districts of Salamanca and Chamartín tomorrow. This intervention focuses on the renovation and conditioning of the upper face of the bridge deck with the aim of ensuring the safety of the infrastructure and extending its useful life after the detection of structural pathologies in the concrete elements.

The works starting now continue the actions already completed on the lower face of the bridge, which included the repair of abutments, piers, and deck, as well as the replacement of elastomeric supports.

Works on the upper face of the bridge

The bridge has a structure consisting of two concrete slab decks, on which the A-2 motorway runs with a total of twelve lanes (seven outbound and five inbound) and side sidewalks for pedestrian traffic.

The works on the upper face include the demolition of the current pavement until reaching the structural concrete, its cleaning and repair, waterproofing of the deck, and the subsequent reinstatement of pavements and sidewalks. Additionally, railings and parapets will be renewed, new signage will be installed, and the drainage system will be adapted by improving gutters and drains.

Execution phases and impacts

The execution will be carried out in four phases, maintaining traffic open on the A-2 at all times and allowing essential movements such as the entry and exit of buses at the Avenida de América interchange. The completion of the works is scheduled for the end of September.

The first phase, which will take place between May 26 and early summer, involves the occupation of the right lane of the A-2 service road in the entrance direction to Madrid. Vehicles will be able to continue circulating on the left lane of this service road and on the main trunk of the A-2. In the outbound direction, the right lane of the service road towards Parque de las Avenidas will be closed, maintaining circulation on the left lane and on the main motorway.

Likewise, the transfer connecting the central lane with the service road will be closed, so vehicles will have to use Calle de Cartagena as an alternative route, allowing access in the entrance direction to Madrid. During this phase, it will be necessary to close the south sidewalk on the Parque de las Avenidas side, so pedestrians will be redirected to the north sidewalk, following a properly signposted route.

For more information on traffic impacts and planned alternative routes, you can consult the municipal website at any time. /
