Apertura de plazo para solicitar 14.415 plazas en campamentos de verano

The Madrid City Council will open the application period for 14,415 spots in municipal summer camps on Wednesday, April 30th. These camps aim to help families balance their personal and work lives during the summer. These spots are part of two out of four types of urban camps offered by the Department of Social Policies, Family, and Equality. Interested individuals can sign up on the Municipal Activities Platform (PLACT) starting this Wednesday.

This service, also available during Christmas and Easter, promotes the personal development of children and youth through fun and educational activities. While participants socialize, learn, and have fun, their parents can manage their family and work responsibilities during non-school periods.

MADRIDCAMP: Balancing Vacation

The MADRIDCAMP program offers 13,800 spots in camps for children aged 3 to 12. These camps feature socio-cultural and leisure activities held in 41 public schools during two shifts in July (from the 1st to the 15th and from the 16th to the 31st) and in 21 centers during a shift in August (from the 1st to the 14th). Activities run on weekdays from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with breakfast and lunch services available.

Eligible users are children registered in Madrid who have at least one working parent. Each center reserves six spots for children with special educational needs attending regular schools. Additionally, spots exempt from fees are reserved for children in emergency situations or at risk of social exclusion referred by municipal social services.

MADRIDCAMP: Balancing Vacation represents an evolution of the successful English Open Centers program in recent years. With a new management contract worth 9 million euros over several years, improvements have been introduced to ensure quality care for participants. Notably, the number of monitors has increased from 1,113 to 1,224, adding one more professional to each center during each period.

Interested families can apply for a spot from April 30th to May 13th through the Municipal Activities Platform. They can also check the allocation and make payments, among other procedures.

Special Open Centers

The Special Open Centers program targets children and youth aged 3 to 21 enrolled in Special Education and residing in Madrid. This program offers educational, recreational, and socio-cultural activities that promote participants’ personal autonomy. It takes place in six public Special Education schools, offering a total of 615 spots, with some exempt from fees for children facing emergencies or social exclusion risks identified by municipal social services.

In this mode of Special Open Centers, camps are organized into four shifts: two in July (from the 1st to the 15th and from the 16th to the 31st) and two in August (from the 1st to the 14th and from the 18th to the 29th) from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The program includes meals, bus transportation routes, and reception services at each center for those without transportation from 8:00 to 10:00 am. The application period runs from April 30th to May 8th through PLACT.

Other Camp Modalities

On May 12th, the Madrid City Council will open the application period for 2,560 spots in two additional modalities of municipal summer camps. This includes 2,100 spots in a new type of sports camps in the first week of September and 460 spots in the Nuestra Señora de la Paloma Vacation Center in Cercedilla. With these additions, the total camp offering by the Department of Social Policies, Family, and Equality will reach 16,975 spots, a 14% increase from the 2024 summer vacation period.
