Almeida, during the presentation of the Zurich Rock and Roll Running Series Madrid, held this Friday at the Palacio de Cibeles
The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, accompanied by the Delegate of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, and the Delegate Councillor of Sport, Sonia Cea, participated this morning at the Palacio de Cibeles in the presentation of the 47th edition of Zurich Rock and Roll Running Series Madrid, the popular marathon of the capital that will take place on April 27 through the streets and «the most beautiful corners of the city,» in the words of the mayor.
A meeting «of the most important in the world of sports in the capital, which conveys the message that Madrid is the city of sports and promotes healthy habits,» as pointed out by Almeida, «hand in hand with culture, music, which always inspires and encourages in difficult moments and through involvement with society through the solidarity initiatives that are carried out.» The mayor thanked the municipal public services «for their extraordinary effort» and called on the runners to undergo a medical check-up at the municipal sports centers before starting the race.
This year, the participation of 45,000 runners is expected, 5,000 more than in the previous edition, distributed in the three categories that make up the event: marathon (42 kilometers), half marathon (21 kilometers), and a 10-kilometer race. In this sports event, runners from 118 different countries have registered, and according to the organization’s own data, it represents an economic impact on the city of more than 64 million euros.
During the presentation of Zurich Rock and Roll Running Series Madrid, the annual distinctions of the organization were also awarded, which in this edition wanted to reward the work of Zurich Seguros, Revista Corredor, Grupo Envera, and Teo Dueñas. In addition, a solidarity check was presented in favor of Fundación Madrina, an entity dedicated to the promotion, assistance, and dignification of women and children. /
