Feria de la Salud en Alcalá del 4 al 10 de abril

The councilor of Health Teófilo Lozano presented on Monday a new edition of the Health Fair of Alcalá, which will take place from April 4 to 10 under the motto ‘Alcalá is health, walking together’. Lozano explained that «World Health Day is a commemorative day on which we aim to support the continuous and dynamic pursuit of health and well-being of the population of Alcalá throughout the year.»

Councilors Esther de Andrés and Pilar Cruz, as well as representatives from different entities and associations of the city, also attended the presentation.

The councilor stated, «With this festive spirit and from a municipal perspective, we want to offer the neighborhood and visitors a celebration, a Health Fair 2025 with maximum participation from everyone, walking together, spread across all districts of the city, to reach all people during those days.»

A program with more than 45 activities and the collaboration of 30 entities

The program of the Health Fair 2025 will include over 45 activities, organized with the collaboration of 30 associations and various entities in the health and institutional field, as well as different council departments and professionals from the Health Council.

The activities will cover talks, conferences, historical visits, sports, leisure, culture, and gastronomy, among others. Lozano highlighted the role of the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS), which has organized 11 Primary Care activities and two Hospital Care activities in collaboration with the University Hospital Príncipe de Asturias. Additionally, the 69 pharmacies in Alcalá will also participate in the event. Furthermore, the City Council has organized 12 activities through different Council Departments, promoting a collaborative and multisectoral approach to address health determinants and empower citizens.

Activities in different districts and emblematic spaces

The activities will take place at various points in the city, with 22 actions in District I and over 23 in the rest of the districts. The venues will include health centers, sports facilities, university and non-university educational centers such as faculties of the University of Alcalá (Medicine, Pharmacy), the CU Cardenal Cisneros, and restaurants of Alcalá Gastronómica–Fomentur, promoting healthy menus. There will also be activities in various local businesses.

Some activities will require prior registration, such as the charity concert, osteoporosis prevention workshop, Nordic walking, pelvic floor workshop, healthy walk, historical hospital route, active aging program, stork route, and frailty screening.

Commitment to health throughout the year

The Health Council promotes health objectives for the population of Alcalá throughout the year, among other actions, through two commemorations that reinforce the achievement of such objectives. One of them is World Heart Day, on September 29 (since 2000; World Heart Federation and World Health Organization, WHO), which supports the annual «Heart Week» in Alcalá, aiming to raise awareness about the need for attention, especially for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, as they are the leading cause of death worldwide. The other commemoration is World Health Day (WHD), celebrated on April 7, now serving as a support point to reaffirm initiatives to improve the health of Alcalá.

World Health Day has been celebrated on April 7 since 1950 (Second World Health Assembly), as proclaimed by 71 countries in 1946 through the United Nations (UN), to commemorate the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. Since then, each year focuses on a specific public health goal.

The theme chosen by the WHO for this World Health Day 2025 is «Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures,» promoting the health of women and supporting families to advance in better maternal and child health, in line with the right to health, as contemplated in article 43 of our Spanish Constitution of 1978; a right constitutionally recognized by over 140 countries.
