The multipurpose room at Centro Cultural Villa de Móstoles was filled yesterday during the colloquium «La mujer y el toro» (Women and the Bull), where five professionals from the bullfighting world shared their experiences. The event, moderated by bullfighting journalist Beatriz García, featured the participation of livestock breeder and veterinarian Macarena Gallego, novice bullfighter Candela Aparicio «La Piyaya», bullfighting photographer and writer Muriel Feiner, Las Ventas’ female usher Rocío López, and bullfighter Carolina Delgado.
As part of the programming organized by the Móstoles City Council, through the Department of Youth, Family, Equality, and Cooperation, in celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8), the colloquium began with a welcoming speech by the Mayor of Móstoles, Manuel Bautista. In his address, the mayor praised the achievements of the five participating women, who are a «clear example» of how women have had to defy stereotypes, overcome barriers, and earn a place in a historically male-dominated space.
«‘La mujer y el toro’ may seem distant from the more traditional debates about equality, but I believe it is quite the opposite. It is a brave way to delve deeper into reflecting on the advances women have made in society,» highlighted the mayor.
In addition to the mayor, the colloquium was attended by the Councilor of Youth, Family, Equality, and Cooperation, Marta Bastarreche, the president of Women in Equality, Laura de Esteban, members of the Municipal Corporation, and representatives from local associations and groups in the city.

Enmarcado en la programación organizada por el Ayuntamiento de Móstoles, a través de la Concejalía de Juventud, Familia, Igualdad y Cooperación, con motivo del 8-M, el coloquio comenzó con el discurso de bienvenida del alcalde de Móstoles, Manuel Bautista. En su intervención, el primer edil puso en valor la trayectoria de las cinco mujeres participantes, que son el «claro ejemplo» de cómo las mujeres han tenido que desafiar estereotipos, superar barreras y ganarse un lugar en un espacio históricamente protagonizado por hombres.
«’La mujer y el toro’ podría parecer alejado de los debates más tradicionales sobre la igualdad, pero creo que es justo lo contrario. Es una forma valiente de ir más allá a la hora de reflexionar sobre los avances que han logrado las mujeres en la sociedad», destacó el alcalde.
Además del alcalde, al coloquio asistieron la concejal de Juventud, Familia, Igualdad y Cooperación, Marta Bastarreche, la presidenta de Mujeres en Igualdad, Laura de Esteban, miembros de la Corporación Municipal y representantes de peñas y del tejido asociativo de la ciudad.
