The Madrid City Council, through the SURES Plan, reinforces its commitment to grassroots sports and territorial rebalancing in the most vulnerable districts of the southeast of the capital. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Madrid and spokesperson for the municipal government, Inma Sanz, after the Governing Board meeting held this Thursday, where a series of credit modifications were reported to incorporate nine new sports projects into the 2025 budget. These actions are funded with 3.2 million euros from the reserve fund of the SURES Plan.

These new projects complement the seven already planned in the General Budget of the Madrid City Council for 2025, with a total budget of over 13.5 million euros. Consequently, the total investment in sports facilities in the nine southeast districts will exceed 16.7 million euros throughout this year.

Among the projects to be carried out this year thanks to the financing of the SURES Plan of the Madrid City Council, highlights include the construction of a new sports pavilion in San Blas-Canillejas and new basic sports facilities (IDBs) in Villaverde (Rosales) and Vicálvaro (El Cañaveral), as well as the renovation of those in Carabanchel (Piqueñas) and Latina (Cerro Almodóvar-Los Yébenes), along with the refurbishment and expansion of four municipal sports centers (CDMs) in Vicálvaro, Puente de Vallecas, Villaverde, and Usera.

In addition, Moratalaz will see the completion of the final phase of the Fuente Carrantona rugby field and the renovation of the athletics facilities at its CDM, as well as the remodeling and improvement works of the Cañaveral football fields in Vicálvaro, the Parque San Isidro IDB in Carabanchel, and the Santa Eugenia IDB in Villa de Vallecas.
